The gift will be used to advance academic excellence, enhance campus facilities, and create a new four-year honors college. By offering highly competitive scholarships to high-achieving students, the honors college aims to supply Bristol and the surrounding region with a steady stream of talented, creative students and graduates who are well versed in new technologies and ideas.

A native Bristolian, John Tickle is Chairman of Strongwell Corporation, a multi-facility manufacturing company headquartered in Bristol, Virginia. Since assuming leadership in 1972, John and his Strongwell teammates have grown the company into a global leader in pultrusion technology. As an educator and devoted community advocate, Ann Tickle has made substantial professional contributions in support of education, children and women. Throughout their careers and lives, they have given generously and joyfully to many important causes in Bristol and beyond.

Details regarding the honors college scholarships and program offerings, including the application processes and deadlines, will be announced in the coming months. Students interested in the Ann and John Tickle Honors College will be able to apply in the 2026-27 academic year for the Fall of 2027.
